Is My Donation Tax-Deductible?

Yes. Manhattan Camerata is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, so your donation is tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.

After you give, we'll send you an official donation receipt letter — this is the document you'll need for tax purposes. Keep it with your tax records; you don't need to send it anywhere in advance.

How Do I Actually Deduct It on My Taxes?

If you've never deducted a charitable donation before, here's the short version:

  1. Save your receipt letter from us. This is your proof of donation — keep it in a safe place (a folder, an email label, wherever you keep tax documents).

  2. You can only deduct donations if you itemize your deductions, rather than taking the "standard deduction" on your tax return. Many people take the standard deduction because it's simpler and, for smaller donation amounts, it may actually save you more than itemizing would. Your accountant or tax software (TurboTax, H&R Block, etc.) will tell you which is better for your situation — you don't need to figure this out yourself.

  3. When filing, report the donation on Schedule A (if itemizing), using the amount and date from our receipt letter. If you use an accountant, simply hand them the letter — they'll take it from there.

  4. If you use tax software, look for a section called "Charitable Donations" or "Gifts to Charity" and enter the amount from our letter.

This is general information, not tax advice — for guidance specific to your situation, we recommend checking with an accountant or tax preparer.
