FILM SCORING

All aspects of film scoring, recording, and production are provided by the Manhattan Camerata and its two directors: film composers Lucía Caruso and Pedro H. da Silva, who have a unique Transclassical approach to film scoring. Recording at the state-of-the-art Dolan Studios at New York University, the Manhattan Camerata has the flexibility to record anything from a small chamber ensemble to a full orchestra (winds, brass, percussion, harps, keyboards, and strings) as appropriate. Projects range from small independent films to large studio productions. Working in multiple styles including orchestral, electronic, jazz, and rock, Manhattan Camerata also undertakes projects for dance, theatre, performance art, video games, and television.

Our most recent project came up after Lucia met with several directors and producers at a Tribeca Film Festival panel in 2015 discussing film restoration. After attending, Pedro and Lucia were inspired to compose new scores for silent film masterpieces that never had any. A producer commissioned the two to write scores to two films by the great innovator Georges Méliès for full orchestra and choir. This project sparked their larger interest in film restoration and it has become one of their missions to revive these films with original music.
